Effective communication of appreciation to your partner, children, co-worker, and even your client.

* Gallup reports that almost 70% of people in the U.S. say they receive no praise or recognition in the workplace.

* Number one factor in job satisfaction is not the amount of pay but whether or not the individual feels appreciated and valued for the work they do.

* There are different ways to communicate appreciation and encouragement to others. Individuals tend to have preferential modes of being shown that they are appreciated and valued.

* The most effective communication of appreciation and encouragement occurs when the message is sent in the language of appreciation most valued by the receiver. The way that appreciation is shown should be authentic, personal, and individualized.

1. Words of Affirmation – Give a specific praise or compliment

This is the language that uses words to communicate a positive message to another person. When you speak this language, you are affirming:

* Their accomplishment or achievement

* Their positive character traits – Important to recognize character traits because it is one of the organization’s greatest assets

* Positive aspects of their personality – Helps the individual play to their strengths

Take into consideration that some people prefer personal one-on-one communication, while others value being praised in front of others.

2. Quality Time – Stop by the office and check in on how things are going

The key element of quality time is not physical proximity but giving someone your undivided attention.

* Quality conversation: Create a safe environment where you can share thoughts, feelings and suggestions in a friendly and uninterrupted context. Affirm their feelings even if you disagree with their conclusions.
