At least 80 peoples killed and 55 injured when a four-storey building housing a plastic bags factory came crashing down in suburban Lahore Wednesday evening, official said, adding dozens more still trapped under the rubble.

More then 150 workers were persent in the rajput polyester factory located in the sunder industrial state, 20 km south of city when it collapsed, according to DCO capt Muhammad Usman.

As the news broke, curious resident and anxious relatives of the workers rushed to the spot do dig out survivors. An official of the EDHI Foundation told the express tribune that when they reached the spot tragedy in Lahore they could hear the cries of the trapped workers which meant they had to be careful in clearing the debris slowing down the rescue operation.

The rescuers used construction equipment provided by the bahria town and the city district government to pull out survivors and retrieve bodies.

Jam sajjad Hussain, the spoke man of rescue 1122, said 100 people were still trapped, while ambulances were taking injure to the Jinnah hospital, general hospital and sharif medical complex for treatment. All are rescue workers are on side but it is such a big incident that we have call staff from sheikhupura and kasur districts he added.
