Throughout my fifteen years of life, my society has deeply inspired me to dream about a career in Medicine. Movies such as The Doctor, and television shows like Remedy has

further contributed to my passion. While I explored what type of career in medicine I wanted to pursue, my recent encounter in the surgical world has helped me come to a conclusion, I have decided to go after my dream job as an Anesthesiologist. My conversations with the physicians at Cheo, family members who currently administer medication and my experience in the surgical world have helped me come to my final decision.

During my preparation for my surgery earlier this year, I was able to speak with various medical professionals including an anesthesiologist. This informative conversation inspired me tremendously. The doctor elaborated on the specific educational requirements and what it takes to be successful. She gave me insight to the competitive nature of medical school and its prerequisites: excelling at math and science. My high school goal is to ensure good grades throughout and a positive attitude to assist me later on for this challenge.

Furthermore, my surgery itself helped solidify this decision. While undergoing surgery, I was prescribed anesthetics in three phases: before, during and after my operation. I witnessed the creative plans for the anesthesia to help manage my airway, keep me sedated and provide life support throughout the procedure and my hospital stay. This first-hand experience became crucial to my decision process. Anesthesiologist play an important role in meeting patient’s specific individual needs.

Finally, my family members who currently administer medication to patients as nurses and health care aids provided me with the foundation required to pursue a career in medicine and Anesthesiology. They have helped me learn about medication dosages, side effects and safety. In addition, they have taught me that the needs of every patient is unique. Special...
