1.1 Introduction
This research is about the usefulness of the 1Malaysia Book Voucher (BB1M) to polytechnic students particularly from semester six students of Polytechnic Ungku Omar. There is no formal studies have been conducted to oversee if the objective of the book vouchers are met or whether they clearly benefits the students. Although the government has provide millions of ringgit for student’s academic expenditure in the form of book vouchers, there is a need to analyses whether the voucher is fully utilized by students.
A survey had been conducted in Kolej Datin Seri Endon(KDSE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia revealed that most students only read more than four hours a year. Most of these book were academic books in preparation for exams, report, writing, tutorials and presentations. In the same study, the reason for the low reading habits is the cost of books and half of the respondents said that most of the reading materials are expensive (Mohini et al.,2011).
Since the cost of book is high, this had be the main factor that influenced the readership behavior among students in Malaysia. So, the government had made an action to overcome this problem by introducing the 1Malaysia Book Voucher (BB1M).
