The article I had chosen was “Fighting Crime with Science” author is Jim Dawson posted in November. He talked about hundreds of projects that were supported for over five years to cover a range of forensic science disciplines. The audience would be anyone in Physical and Life Science or Computer Science. One main purpose it talked about was scientists and technicians spent many hours analyzing a never-ending flow of evidence. It is important because they take all their time and devote it into their work to get the job done. They have to get their fingerprints and investigate to what happened and figure out the cause or catch the criminal. The laboratories are slow but could process faster because lowering costs have increased in the past couple years. A few of the projects they have worked on in the past five years would be DNA Research, Trace Evidence, Fingerprint Comparison, Toxicology, Digital Forensics, and Crime Scene Investigation. They worked on those to cover a range of forensic science disciplines.
They have certain dogs that detect explosives and costly technology. Both the dogs and technology have limited ability of what they can and cannot do and have to go through extensive training. Being able to get a strand of DNA left at a crime scene is one major forensic science importance. There is an inexpensive detector that is a more useful way to detect explosives. They have a chip that can detect the exact type of explosive. They put the chip on the liquid that flows up the paper and shows a reaction as a colored dot. It costs only pennies and is small enough to fit in pockets. They have a similar chip that could also identify a variety of drug substances. Scientist often relies on a geographical system for bone fragments. But, the system is not specifically designed to analyze bone fragments. They have been trying to develop software to help with the fragments. They ended up...
