Case Study #1

The problem in this case study is that Eric is a collegiate football player and he has had a light tear to his ACL which resulted in a major tear to his ACL. This situation is problematic because if Eric had waited the initial eight to twelve weeks of healing time that his doctored ordered and not thinking he was okay after four weeks he wouldn’t have ended up hurt again. I think the interventions in this situation are coping with injury and goal setting. I feel that the psychological skill of coping with injury is appropriate for this situation because Eric does have a bigger injury now than he did before, and he needs to follow proper instructions to get it healed correctly. I think also that goal setting is a psychological skill because Eric goes have motivation to be back out playing football on the field I just feel that he needs to prioritize his injury and future goals better and more maturely. I think the intervention should occur as soon as possible in off-season if he plans to play football again in the future because he should know what entails him if he returns regarding the injury, and also to give him extra time to fully recover his injury from rehabilitation. I think the intervention should involve Eric, his football coach, athletic trainer at his school, and Eric’s doctor who was seeing him over the injury. I think they should all be involved in the intervention because they all should be on the same page with what Eric’s injury history is so they can help him to overcome the mental and psychological effects and also to help him prevent future injuries to it. That way also that the coach specifically knows what Eric is capable of from hi physical body with the input of his past doctor and athletic trainer who can monitor if his injury starts to worsen again and prevent a lesser situation.
