Erik Peterson at Biometra (A & B) | Anurag Chopra

Executive Summary: Core Issues and recommendations

* The most immediate issue facing Erik is the successful and timely launch of catheter by April 1. Erik needs to play a more active role in ensuring that manufacturing quality issues are resolved in time.

* The underlying core issue that Erik needs to focus on is relationships, specifically inter-department relationships. To remedy this, Erik needs to align people to the overall objective (the ‘big’ picture) and make them realize how conflicts/indecisiveness/lack of initiatives is putting the firm’s objective of having a successful product launch at risk.

Problem Statement: Key problems

Challenges in front of Erik are:

1. Handling relationships among the employees: This is a classic example of what an effective leader faces in his/her organization, how to make people work as ONE cohesive team. Multiple reasons may attribute to relationships among colleagues turning sour.

a. People being indecisive (maybe due to lack of knowledge) and hence scared to make a decision (eg: Hardy).

b. Different working styles/personality traits affects the level of cooperation among people when no hierarchical structure is defined. (eg: Andrew and Melissa, Wescott and Trevor, Erik and Scott, Erik and Cantor).

c. When people are working out of their comfort zone, they tend to feel incompetent (Andrew) thereby becoming defensive and territorial, affecting team cooperation.

2. Manufacturing quality issues.

3. Lack of clear definition of roles and responsibilities

There is not a very a clear distribution of responsibiltiy
