Hemophilia

Hemophilia is a disorder with the circulatory system which makes it take much longer for your blood to clot or in severe cases makes your blood unable to clot. This can cause serious injuries do to internal bleeding or blood loss. This bleeding can damage your organs and tissue which can cause it to be life threatening. The reason it is difficult for the blood of people with hemophilia to clot is because they are missing essential clotting factor. Clotting factor is essential protein which works with platelets to clot the blood. Platelets are small blood cell fragments that form in the bone marrow when blood vessels are injured, clotting factors help platelets stick together to plug cuts and breaks on the vessels and stop bleeding ("Hemophilia Symptoms, Causes, Treatment - What Are Treatments for Hemophilia? - MedicineNet." MedicineNet. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Dec. 2014.). This is why people with severe hemophilia have to be worried about getting something as simple as a bruise because they will be bleeding internally with no way to stop. Hemophilia is usually inherited from parent’s genes. However in rare cases people have acquired hemophilia due to their body producing antibodies which kill the clotting factor proteins. This happens throughout life not as soon as the child is born. This can make hemophilia very dangerous because people may be suffering from it and have no idea. About 7 out of 10 people who have hemophilia A have the severe form of the disorder. The two main types of hemophilia are A and B. If you have hemophilia A, you're missing or have low levels of clotting factor VIII (8). About 8 out of 10 people who have hemophilia have type A. If you have hemophilia B, you're missing or have low levels of clotting factor IX (9). These types are equally as dangerous but must be known in order to cure hemophilia ("Hemophilia Symptoms, Causes, Treatment - What Are Treatments for Hemophilia? - MedicineNet." MedicineNet.
