2014 Senate Election Project: Research

Objective:  To track and reflect upon the 2014 Senate campaigns based on various media resources.

Using the suggested web sites below and others, answer the following questions. You may create spaces on this sheet and print it out or you may complete these answers on a separate sheet. This should be typed and printed out BEFORE you walk in the door.

1. What political party does your candidate belong to? Greg Orman is an independent

2. What is your candidate’s background and experience? Greg Orman was a part of a family with 5 siblings. His mom worked full-time as a registered nurse, and his dad opened a furniture store in 1971. He worked in the warehouse of his dad’s store and earned his first paycheck in the age of 13. Greg now lives in Olathe with his wife, Sybil, and their two dogs, Lucy and Mala. Greg graduated from Princeton University in 1991 with a degree in economics. In 1992, Greg started Environmental Lighting Concepts (ELC).

3. Who is your candidate’s opponent? (Who is he/she running against?) Pat Roberts.

4. Is your candidate the incumbent (the person currently holding office)? No, Pat Roberts is the incumbent.

5. What are the major issues of this election? List at least five.

• Same- sex marriage

• Environment

• Gun Ownership

• Immigration

6. Social Security Of the major issues you listed, choose three and explain your candidate’s views on that issue IN COMPLETE SENTENCES. Greg Orman believes that the government should not prohibit same sex marriage. He wants to protect the environment and create jobs. Lastly, he believes that border patrols should be increased to reduce the undocumented immigrant flow.
