The Need for Free Clinics

Introduction

A large part of the Atlanta, Georgia population is still uninsured or underinsured despite the Obama Healthcare Program that was recently put in place. In Georgia, almost 18 percent of the non-elderly residents do not have health insurance.

Without proper healthcare the low income communities of Atlanta, Georgia are faced with severe challenges when it comes to treating major illness. With lack of or no insurance they will not be given quality medical treatment. Some will have to choose between food, taking care of their families, and buying their preventive medicines.

Process

Sense the most important process of healthcare is to prevent illness, catch symptoms early, and help stabilize life threaten illness, a free clinic in Atlanta, Georgia will be a great contribution to the citizens of Atlanta.

With insurance being at an all-time high and unemployment rates still at a low the free clinic will help ease the mind of a lot of people needing healthcare. However “it is important to note that being uninsured is not the same as being unemployed. About 83 percent of uninsured people have jobs. C.A.R.E Clinics, have found that many of the patients worked at two or more jobs but did not receive health care benefits” (The Care Clinic, 2015)

Benefits of the program

The benefit of a free clinic will provide a wide outreach of resources for the Atlanta communities. It will insure that patients receive immediate and ongoing care for new and existing illness.

With a free clinic in place the emergency rooms will see a decline in the number of non-emergency visits from patients using the emergency room as if it was their primary doctor office. I personally have witness uninsured patients using the emergency for non-emergencies because they were denied preventive treatment by as primary doctor due to lack of insurance or no...
