The Current Scenario

The Organisation

Islamabad Health Services (IHS) is a new hospital located in F-6 Markaz, Islamabad. They have state of the art medical facilities; a reason they are much sought after. Considering their location and the level of services being provided, they are primarily targeting upper middle and high-end clientele.

When IHS was established it focused more on high profile medical facilities alone and therefore most of the investments were directed towards electro-medical equipment and machines. On the other hand administration was not expected to showcase any operational difficulties and was to be manual/labour based only. However as IHS has been in operation a few loopholes and bottlenecks have been identified in the day to day activities which are hampering effective running of the organisation.

Difficulties being faced

While IHS boasts of its medical facilities to be the latest, the organisation is still paper based in administrative matters. They maintain their patient records in a centralized storage facility in printed folders and files. All these records are maintained under the supervision of a Records Manager. Due to the manual nature of workflow the organisation has faced several administrative difficulties that have had an adverse impact on the reputation of IHS.

Doctors have in the past experienced situations where patient records could not be accessed due to a number of organisational issues, leading to delay in medical treatment to the patient. Doctors and the Hospital’s management temporarily managed to resolve the situation by waiving off treatment fees in those instances to regain patients’ trust. This policy, however, cannot be pursued on a continuous basis as it is detrimental to the organisational cash flow.
