Executive summary

The Everest Simulation is a virtual game simulating a group-climb to the summit of Everest Mountain targeting at provide participants opportunity to gain first-hand experience in group work. Six or seven people will be randomly selected in order to form a group in which each person will be assigned different roles with goals and rewards. The aim of this game is to provide participations opportunity to practice collaborative and leadership skills by arranging some situations with potential problems and issues. For example, the Physician has to decide who will be received medical supplies in the next stage.

In order to reflect the purpose of this game, it was played twice times. The first simulation would be conducted virtually in separate place while the second one would be took place face to face. In the first simulation, my score was relatively low but it was considerably improved to 60% in the second one. The reason for this improvement is might be because I had no experience as well as preparation. Similarly, on the group level, there was a significant improvement in team overall score from 35% to 56% as a result of a change in communication medium from text-based communication to face-to-face communication. Thus, higher interaction amongst teammate, cooperation in thinking leading to higher evaluation and critical analysis and the ability to solve conflict. Although the team overall score increased in the second simulation, it just exceed the average reflecting that there was something wrongs in our process such as poor decision-making, poor communication or low level of engagement.

In general, the Everest simulation had provide students practical experience and skills regarding teamwork.
