HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

* A hazardous material is any item or agent (biological, chemical, radiological, and/or physical), which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors.

* includes any substance or chemical which is a "health hazard" or "physical hazard", including: chemicals which are carcinogens, toxic agents, irritants, corrosives, sensitizers; agents which act on the hematopoietic system; agents which damage the lungs, skin, eyes, or mucous membranes; chemicals which are combustible, explosive, flammable, oxidizers, pyrophoric, unstable-reactive or water-reactive; and chemicals which in the course of normal handling, use, or storage may produce or release dusts, gases, fumes, vapours, mists or smoke which may have any of the previously mentioned characteristics.

* CLASSIFICATION of HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

* Class 1 Explosives

* Explosives are materials or items which have the ability to rapidly conflagrate or detonate as a consequence of chemical reaction

1.1 Explosives with a mass explosion hazard

1.2 Explosives with a projection hazard

1.3 Explosives with predominately a fire hazard

1.4 Explosives with no significant blast hazard

1.5 Very sensitive explosives; blasting agents

1.6 Extremely insensitive detonating devices

* Class 2 Gases

* Gases are defined as substances which have a vapour pressure of 300 kPa or greater at 50°c or which are completely gaseous at 20°C at standard atmospheric pressure, and items containing these substances. The class encompasses compressed gases, liquefied gases,...
