Organization Change (Nokia Case, p.g. 2 CH 1-Class Discussion)

Some of the Key points in this case

Brought out smartphones

Didn’t build on the US format

Internal Issues- In class we talked about Shared Diagnosis (From this case we can say that there

was not shared diagnosis in that the employees were negative about change. In order to the

them to change we should let them voice their opinion and get the rest of management on their

side but they didn’t and so they needed a change, they needed new management.

It has to do with the people and their comfort level and whether they are willing.

Allan asked us what three faces of change we would use

1) Turnaround- Because of the bottom line. Targets Assets---> Improve short-term- bottom line

performance

2)Transformation (more so)- Targets behaviors---> Enhance human capabilities

3)Tools and Techniques-Some of the tools we could use are TQM (Total Quality Management),

this is to line operational processes with the requirement for customer-defined quality and continuous

improvement. We could also use Agile Development (which is a stronger choice to Tools and

Techniques), this is a process for product development, mainly software, based on collaborative cross

functional team effort.

1. Review Exhibit 1-1. Select one of the companies. Based on the brief statement of its renewed

strategy (or research the company for further details), think about how patterns of employee

behavior will have to change.

Netflix*We would have to downsize hard because it will be more computerized as opposed to physical labor

and then we would need to rehire candidates that possess degree's in computer tech for our new

system. *There would have to be new training

*Customer service would have to be trained from very hands on to computer based.
