North African Campaign

The North African Campaign

Time Frame:

The 1940’s there were many interesting important events that occurred. For example, technology took a huge step up, the computer was invented, radar was developed, missiles, jet aircrafts, the popular “slinky” was invented and to top off the 1940’s “Tupperware” was developed, so there was a lot of big, and small advancements that occurred during that time period (Wikipedia.com). On a more serious note, there was a huge war going on, that war was the great World War II, which occurred from 1939 to 1945 (Wikipedia.com).

When:

At the same time that World War II took place. One particular campaign as it was known had developed overseas in Africa, it was called the North African Campaign, which was also known as The Desert war. That campaign took place from June 10th 1940 to May 13th 1943 (Wikipedia.com). Those wars were a big deal because every single little campaign or battle that was fought throughout the years had something big to do with who had control of what, and it separated the weak from the strong. All of those little battles added and each were part of World War II.

Where:

North African Campaign took place over several African countries, specifically in North Africa. This campaign had many different battles in each of the countries that it took place in, these battles were all part of the North African Campaign. The countries where all these battles were fought in included: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, the Western Sahara, and some of the Mediterranean Sea (u-s-history.com).

Who:

This campaign started on June 10th 1940 when Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini declared war on France and United Kingdom which were part of the Allies(u-s-history.com).
