John Rawls was born in 1921 and was an American Political Philosopher. Rawls had the theory of justice. He felt that ethical views that did not include the concepts of personal justice would place society, or the good of the corporation, in front of the fairness and justice that all people deserve. With his theory he built a foundation that focuses on a system ethical principle to ensure all justice for individuals is being considered. Rawls’ theory puts a major focus on the justice of each individual and feels as though any act that violates the right to fairness is unethical. Also, the end does not justify the means if someone has been treated unfairly or if an injustice has occurred. (Chapter 1 eguide) John Rawls died in 2002.
The article Teen Gastric Bypass Can Increase Risk of Birth Defects explains that more and more teenagers who are morbidly obese are getting gastric bypass surgery in order to be able to live a healthier and fulfilling life. However, the surgery has posed to have issues regarding birth defects in the effected teen’s children later on in life because the reduction in the fat cells can lead to the reduction of vital vitamins and nutrients that is needed for babies while in the womb. I feel that utilizing Rawls theory would work here because it would put the focus on the babies because in the end they are being treated unfairly because their parent(s) in the end bettered themselves but endangered the child they were carrying.
John Rawls was a dedicated philosopher who had the justice of others in mind when he developed his theory of justice. He seems as though he was a great man who has the interest of others in mind in his everyday works. His theory can be used to help many people in today’s society for many different situations.
