Social responsibility is defined as an ethical framework which suggests that an entity whether it be an organization or an individual has as an obligation to act for the benefit of society at large. There are many questions as to what benefits society as a whole. Social responsibility in business also raises the question should the business act in the best interest of society as a whole or only be concerned with whether the business is profitable or not. This is the question with Company Q.

In my opinion Company Q has tried to be socially responsible in some aspects of their decision-making but can definitely improve their attitude towards social responsibility in the communities that they operate their business in. First company Q needs to address the issue of food bank donations. The company is more concerned with the loss of profits because they feel that store employees themselves may take the food that is supposed to be donated to the food bank. Company Q can create a program that tracks donations to the food bank by either daily or weekly donations that are delivered by company Q management or picked up by the local food bank directly. A signed receipt must be required in either option. By making donations Company Q can also eliminate the profit loss of throwing out food by using the donations as a tax deduction. By creating a program like this company Q shows that they are care and are interested in helping and working with the communities where they are operating their business in. Second Company Q has received numerous requests to offer more health conscious and organic products in stores but has opted to only bring in a limited number of these items. Company Q should be more receptive to bringing in more of these items as they are a high margin and much more profitable to the company. This will also show the community that they are listening to their requests and are concerned with the health and wellbeing of the people who are doing...
