Case study: Ways to secure your smartphone

1. What do you do to prevent someone else from snooping on your smartphone? If it involves configuration(s) on your phone, please explain the steps here (e.g., go to Settings, etc.). [10 points]

- In this case I would apply a screen lock to my phone to ensure that no nosy people can see what I am doing. I currently have an Android so I will provide steps for the Android phones. You will want to go to settings then go to lock screen. The OS provides a few ways to lock your screen. You can use a pattern, pin, password, or fingerprint.

2. What do you do to lower the risk of installing bad apps loaded with malware? If it involves configuration(s) on your phone, please explain the steps. [10 points]

- One way to do this is to make sure that you know what app you are installing and you may want or google the app first to make sure that it is a trusted app. Another way to make sure you are not installing malware is to just download from either the app store or google play store. Apple’s app store is more trusted but the google play store you will have to be careful when installing apps.

3. What antivirus and anti-spyware program is running on your smartphone? Why do you choose it? If you don’t have any on your phone, please research on “top mobile security apps” from reputable sources and explain why you choose a particular app over the others. [10 points]

- Currently I am using AVG antivirus software. I have come to trust AVG over the years and they have not disappointed me on my android phone. Not only does the app provide protection for my phone, it also clears up the RAM to make sure my phone is running at full speed.
