Criteria for membership:

* European state

* Acquis communautaire

* Full body of laws and regulations governing the EU

* Free movement of goods

* Freedom of movement for workers

* Intellectual property law

* Competition policy

* Consumer policy

* Financial control

* Established for the Eastern enlargement - countries transforming from Authoritarian, centrally-planned economies, to democratic free markets economies

* Copenhagen Criteria in (1993)(in addition to the acquis):

* Stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, rule of law, human rights and respect for and protection of minorities

* Existence of a functioning market economy and the capacity to cope with competitive pressure and market forces in EU

* Ability to take on obligations of membership, including adherence to the aims of political, economic, and monetary

Why Turkey should join the EU

* On the other hand for the EU countries, they would have tremendous opportunity to show the world that the EU values the Islamic countries as an equal, this might have a ripple effect to the Muslims who will start to believe that they were valued and might not believe too much about what they leaders say and will not resort to terrorisms

* To create more career opportunity and substantial growth with the help of foreign direct investments, will be able to change the agricultural industry to a manufacturing that will create more jobs to boost the economy, implementing changes that will bring in benefits will help to make a difference in terms of lobbying the Turkish government to adopt regulatory changes and economic changes

Why Turkey should not join the EU:
