CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY

Hotel St. Ellis, the first 4-star hotel in the province of Albay, started its operations last December, 2009 at Rizal Street, Legazpi City, Albay with the zip code of 4500. The nature and type of its business is hospitality and food service and single proprietorship, respectively.

The hotel, known for its exquisite and top-of-the-line services, has a set of corporate values which are exceptional services, integrity, professionalism, respect, constant improvement and innovation and of course, profitability. The first value mentioned refers to the entity’s drive to create value in their day-to-day encounter with their customers through superior standard of service. The next value, which is integrity, means that the entity itself and its members are committed in conducting business in an honest and straightforward manner in their interactions with their guests, associates and stakeholders. The third value mentioned refers to the accountability of the employees, wherein they will provide support and instill a cooperative and responsible atmosphere among them to achieve their common goal. On the other hand, the fourth value mentioned implies that the hotel consider its guests, employees and the community and its environment as integral parts in the pursuit of its interests; that it will continuously treat its guests with respect and comply with all relevant laws and regulations. Constant improvement and innovation means that the viability of the business will depend on the company’s ability, as a whole, to be creative and keep abreast with the trends in the industry.
