Persuasive Talk Analysis

Topic: Persuade a citizen group at a town meeting that they need to support the building of a recreation center rather than a juvenile detention center as a way to reduce gang violence

Issues:

* The need to reduce gang violence in the community

* Convince committee members who are on the fence that a new recreation center is a batter option to reduce violence in the community than a juvenile detention center

Goals:

* Have the committee vote for a recreation center instead of a detention center

* Reduce crime by establishing a recreation center

Audience:

* Scope:

* Primary Audience: Citizen group at the town meeting. Members in the group are established in the community and have families

* Secondary Audience: People who live in the community that will hear about the meeting or are an active part of the community

* Ethos:

* Group Mentality: This committee cares about their community. They want to keep their community away from violence and will take the lead to solve a problem. I will use accepted behaviors and attitudes of the group to my advantage. They value community fellowship, safety and family.

* Credibility: Established member of the community who shares the same values of safety and family

* Tone: Show the audience I am invested in this situation too. We are in this community together. Our community will fight to keep it violence-free

* Need:

* Audience needs to realize that a recreation center will diminish gang violence and benefit the town more than a detention center
