Bad Decision

Every day of our lives we make decisions. The decisions we make can either be good or bad. Literary figures often face hard decisions. In the play Antigone by Sophocles, King Creon had made a terrible decision. This decision was to execute Antigone. This decision had a domino effect on his life.

King Creon thought he was far more important than anyone else. Antigone disobeyed him and buried her brother despite Creon saying they shouldn’t. To show the power Creon had, he ordered Antigone to be killed. Creon thought this act would show how powerful he was, instead it showed how cruel he was.

Creon’s own son saw how unreasonable he was being. He firmly disagreed with his father’s decision. Haimon was only trying to help his father, but in return his father gave him the cold shoulder. Creon’s decision was the cause of his death. His effort to show how mighty he was, ended up killing his son.

When the news of Haimon’s death got to the queen she was furious. Queen Eurydice blamed Creon for the death of their son. She killed herself because of the misery and pain she was in, but before dying she cursed Creon. If Creon would have been rational about his decision he would still have his son and his wife. This one decision showed Creon’s ways and turned everyone against him.

We make minor and major decisions every day. We don’t think much about these decisions we make. Certain decisions can change our lives. Creon made a decision without much thought. His decision changed his life and now he must live with the consequences. Each and every day of our lives we are faced with decisions, yet we don’t think about the consequences. Next time you are about to make a decision, stop and think, are you ready to live with the outcome and the consequences.
