The purpose of this study was to test whether interventions could be put into place to teach individuals to behave more charismatically and whether charisma had an impact on leader outcomes. The objective of Antonakis et al., 2011, was to add to the existing body of academic literature which focuses on the leader development. There were a total of two studies conducted by the researchers. The first study was a mixed designed field experiment that involved 34 individuals from middle management within a large corporation located in Switzerland. Antonakis et al., participants of the first study were randomly assigned to a control group or an experimental group (p.374). During this experiment, the control group were given pre- and posttest related to charisma. The researches obtain 360 degree ratings on the perceived charisma of each manager 1 month prior to intervention being put into place. Interventions were provided for the experimental group. 3 months after interventions had been administered, a second rating was conducted to measure the each participant’s charisma and leadership outcomes (p. 378). For the second study, Antonakis et al., (2011) conducted a within-subject’s study. Within this study, 41 students registered in an English-speaking MBA program in Switzerland, were selected as participants. Each participant was enrolled in a leadership course that primarily focuses on charismatic leadership. It must be mentioned that speeches for this course were delivered in English (p. 385).
