CHOCOLATE

I love chocolate because whenever I eat chocolate I feel a happy sensation inside that makes me tingle all over. I must admit that I am a chocoholic to the extreme. A chocoholic can be described as someone who has to have chocolate no matter what. I love the rich taste of chocolate, the way it smells and how it dissolves in your mouth.

Scientific studies have shown that eating chocolate can have a good effect on the brain. Adam Drewnowski, a professor who has done research studies on health and nutrition stated, "We want chocolate in times of stress, anxiety, pain and so on. Chocolate is a natural analgesic, or painkiller" [CNN]. It has also been stated by other researchers that chocolate cravings have something to do with a chemical in the brain called serotonin which gives a person a feeling of relaxation [Morganelli].

There are many assortments and varieties of chocolate: bittersweet, semisweet, unsweetened, milk and white chocolate. I love them all, but my favorite is white chocolate because of the rich buttery creamy taste. In the1930s Nestle came up with a white chocolate candy bar which was originally created as a way to use excess cocoa butter [The Nibble].

There actually is a national holiday for chocolate lovers that are celebrated on October 28.  This holiday is not related to Halloween but instead it is a day to celebrate all things chocolate [Wordpress.com]. If you are a chocoholic then this is your day to indulge in chocolate treats from all over the world. This unofficial National holiday was started by the National Confectioners Association [NCA].

Most people are not quite sure where chocolate comes from. Cacao beans are the seeds of the cacao fruit which grows on a tree is where chocolate comes from. The fruit has a very bitter taste.
