Slide 16-3 Major Retailer Types
There are several major retailer types, from specialty stores, to department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, drug stores, discount stores, off-price retailers, superstores, and catalog showrooms. H-E-B is not only a supermarket but they also offer specialty stores and discount stores. Their basic store is much like any other grocery store offering “general grocery, frozen foods, meat, pharmacy, paper goods, health and beauty products and produce.” (It’s All Good at H-E-B). H-E-B’s specialty stores include Mi Tienda, which when translated means ‘my store’ and their Central Market stores. Mi Tienda stores “are centered on providing service to the Latino Market.” (It’s All Good at H-E-B) These stores even have a restaurant that serves Latin foods like tortas, tacos and tamales. The Central Market stores are H-E-B’s upscale stores that “features organic products, produce, a European style bakery, international foods, and an extensive wine and beer collection.” (It’s All Good at H-E-B) Joe V’s Smart Shop are H-E-B’s offering in the big warehouse style discount stores, they are not fancy, products are set out on pallets and industrial type shelving with no pretty displays.

Slide 16-12 Store Atmosphere and Experiences
“Texans know that H-E-B is the best grocery store in America. The chain has been providing a superior experience for much longer than Whole Foods.” (Lutz, 2014) H-E-B has created an environment that is fun and inviting with customer service that is second to none. They have produce sections that have 900 items available, packaging that is appealing to the eye and fun. H-E-B has a hot sauce where the bar code is in the shape of a hot pepper, and tortilla chips that are in the shape of Texas to go with it, who wouldn’t love that?...
