1) Define the term conclusion.
Conclusion in critical thinking is a claim that an argument is trying to establish itself as a true statement. What the arguer is trying to prove is to the audience. The conclusion needs to be supported in the arguments premises.

2) What is the conclusion of each article?
In the lost opportunity article the conclusion was stated by the author as “I think about the dilemma of
good engineering but harmful policy — the dilemma of focusing on technical fixes but ignoring the
larger problem”.
In the Mary Sell article Common Core the conclusion is that the Common Core structure is not working in the State of Alabama. A statement on the article goes “Our problem is not that we didn’t have standards. The problem is that we didn’t have a focus on meeting our standards”. |

3) Define the term premises.
Premises are claims of facts offered as evidence to support the arguments conclusion.

4) What premises support the conclusions in each article?
In Wellners article I can find many premises but they are not backed up by reliable real facts. He is stating that schools are closing, and teachers and principals are being dismissed because of the Common Core Standards being practiced. He doesn’t state how he came up with this conclusion with creditable sources.
