The Impact of Mobile Technology in the Workplace

There are many components that make a business successful. Some of these components are easy and some are very challenging, but developing core values and knowing where to start will lead to a business's success. One of these components, likely topping the list, is the businesses ability to communicate. Communication is a means of relaying or exchanging information between a sender and a receiver. The exchanging of information between parties, in business, is a vital and critical entity for growth. Communicating one's thoughts, feelings, and point of views creates a mutual understanding or bridge for businesses to operate smoother and much more productive (BusinessDictionary). If good communication, non-distorted messages or meanings, is achieved then good work will follow. (Nielsen, L., nd). Company's can do this in a number of ways, but none more prevalent or more effective for profitability than the use of mobile technology.

In today's society, people all over the world are constantly on the go with a necessity to remain connected and individuals in the business community are far from the exception. Mobile technology (i.e. Smartphone's, PDA's, laptops, and tablets) permits, while not being tied to a particular location, company employees to have access to e-mail, company data and its resources, and communications with other staff members, customers and vendors (Strategic Growth Concepts). In 2013, a survey conduct by Avanade, revealed that 61 percent of the companies surveyed reported that their employees used personal devices at work and 54 percent used Smartphone's to examine emails, to process online documents and to utilize calendar functionality. According to the same survey, tablets have been on the rise as well for more advanced tasks that include customer relationship management (CRM), project management, content creations, and data analysis (Slattery 2013).
