When delivering any presentation it is important to understand your audience to ensure that you are able to communicate clearly and effectively. Knowing your audience often means incorporating various methods of communication in your presentation to ensure you are able to reach the various stakeholders that make up your audience. Over the course of this paper we will delve into the different characteristics of your audience that you must consider while giving a presentation, the different communication channels that are appropriate, the considerations you must keep in mind given a diversified audience and how to ensure your message is effective.

Characteristics

When developing your presentation you must first consider your audience and how they would best understand the information you are about to give them. Consider an audience made up of managers, salespeople, and customers and how each group will perceive the information you are about to present. Each group will need to understand the information and how it relates to them personally. Managers will likely want to understand how the information impacts their area of business, the business as a whole, and the details behind the conclusions you have made in your presentation. The salespeople will likely want to understand how the information impacts their ability to sell the product, what changes, if any, are being made to the product, and how it affects the customer so they can be fully knowledgeable about the product they are trying to sell. The customers will likely want to understand how the information impacts them personally as a customer, if there are any health benefits/risks associated with the product, how the information may affect the price of the product, and if the information will include the changes they would like to see in the product. To convey information to such a wide variety of audiences in a single presentation will require a few different communication styles.
