Though Herve Leger dresses are by no means new, lately I have noticed their proliferation with regards to the jet set. These dresses are elastic and banded. They are all the rage among the fashion elite treading the red carpets and at other recent celebrity get-togethers. They move with you while shaping the body and accenting a woman's curves.

It's hard to say how these dresses, this so-called micro trend, is driven by the broader trends of our times without delving into speculation regarding the fashion choices that women make and the thinking that goes into it. While most clothing manufacturers follow the trends and formulate cost driven designs, Herve Leger, with its well cultivated reputation dictates fashion and, in fact, sets the trends for other designers, manufacturers and consumers.

Still, while Herve Leger dresses themselves are very limited in that only 2000 of them are produced every year, the knock-offs have made the underlying theme more accessible, and so Herve Leger therefore has had a greater impact on pop culture than its designer may have ever dreamed.

Comfort and fashion are the main catalysts that drive the clothing industry. Still, the demographics for any particular trend often is driven by economic restraints. The formal wear that I have chosen is expensive compared to other fashion trends. Even the knock-offs pose a financial hurdle for most, especially when the current recession is taken into account. Still, the Herve Lerge dresses do target a young crowd by embracing designs that are both smart and sassy.
