COURSE OVERVIEW
Research methods is an integral course that is important at the graduate and post graduate levels of higher education. Skills gained in the course are applicable across various social science fields such as education, economics, sociology, business administration among others. Gaining some level of expertise in research methods can give students an edge in their academic and professional lives as they become more articulate researchers in various professions in the private sector, public sector and also in the non-government organizations. I believe this is one course that you will never regret undertaking at Kenya Methodist University. Let’s do this together!
Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is to introduce you to simple methods and skills in research. This course primarily introduces you to problem identification and stating, proposal writing, simple research methods in data collection, analysis and report writing.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, you should be able to:-
1. Explain the nature and types of research;
2. Explain the process of research proposal;
3. Identify a problem of research and describe the criteria for selecting it;
4. Explain the role of literature review in research;
5. Embrace the procedures in research, methodology and report writing;
6. Explain the importance of statistics in research and uses of computer in research.
Course Content
The course will cover: Introduction to research concept, research approaches, identification and stating a research problem, stating research hypothesis, literature review, population and sampling, data collection, ethical, human relations and legal issues in research, data organization and analysis, proposal and report writing
