In this day in age, conserving energy is very important. By conserving, we are not necessarily hoping to conserve energy itself, but the resources that create it. Conserving energy can lead to drastic changes that will help improve our lives. Energy conservation leads to lowered resource depletion, lowered extraction harm, lowered emissions that help our pollution problem, and also helps with the ozone depletion. Not to mention we can all save a lot of money and improve our health (auroraonline.net).

There are two types of energy resources; renewable and nonrenewable. Wikipedia defines a natural resource as renewable “if it is replenished by natural processes at a rate comparable or faster than its rate of consumption by humans or other users.” Some examples are solar energy, wind energy, and hydro energy. Nonrenewable resources are the opposite. They cannot be replaced as quickly by natural means. Some examples are natural gas, coal, oil, and other fossil fuels.

As home owners, there are many things you can do to help in our energy conservation effort. Heating is the single biggest energy use in homes (reddingelectricutility.com). Keeping your heating and cooling systems well maintained and clean can really help in saving power. You can also make sure that the sealing in your refrigerator and freezer are not damaged and keep the cold air inside. The less air that escapes, the less power your unit will use up. Many of the leading appliance brands have come out with high efficiency models that can really help to save energy. Using hot water is another big energy user and should be kept to a minimum if you wish to save. Saving energy can even be as easy as turning off the light when you are leaving a room, or even using low wattage bulbs.
