Pepsi CEO: Indra Nooyi

In 1974, Nooyi got her bachelor’s degree from MCC with distinction in Chemistry. In 1976, she earned her MBA degree from Indian Institute of Management and got her first job in the Textile industry at Mettur Breadshell Ltd. After then she joined Johnson & Johnson as a Product Manager. In 1978, she got the full scholarship to get her 2nd Master’s degree from School of Management of Yale University. In 1980, she got a Master’s degree in Public Administration. After that, Nooyi Joined Boston Consulting Group and served as the director of international corporate strategic projects from the period of 6 years. In 1986, she joined Motorola and became the Vice President and Directors within the shortest period of 2 years. In 1990, Asea Brown Boveri Inc. offered her the job and she accepted it. She was appointed as the Senior Vice President and Director of marketing. She played a major role in the development of company’s marketing presence and corporate division, which gave ABB’s Competitive Edge in North America (Indra K. Nooyi Biography ).

By 1994, Nooyi made her prominent position in the corporate sector (Nilekani, 2007). Jack Welch, CEO of GE, consider Nooyi for a good position in General Electric. Nooyi found it very interesting and was about to accept the offer when the Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo, Wayne Calloway approached her. However, she accepted PepsiCo’s offer and changed its portfolio successfully (Byrane, 2000). This success took her one step more upon the career ladder. She was promoted to the position of CFO in May 2001.

On August 16, 2006, she became the first Women CEO in the history of PepsiCo. With the diverse experience and expectation to promote change in the company she launched the new vision in the company i.e. “Performance with Purpose” (Freeland, 2009).
