Abstract

The legality of cannabis is a current topic of debate in the present day. Attitudes are rapidly changing and countries worldwide are taking steps towards legalising the once prohibited drug. By completing this project I am hoping to find out about what arguments are currently being put forward as to why cannabis should be legalised. I intend to answer this question through the use of secondary research. I will need to ensure that this secondary information originates from a reliable source based on fact; this will allow me to produce a well-supported and factual answer to the research question. The first step will be to make sure that the author’s credentials are valid and the information is in a useful format such as a book or journal which I can source directly in my answer. I will also need to collect statistics and figures which can be used to support my answer and strengthen the argument in question, again making sure they are from a reliable source. The limitations I could face with this project are that I will have to rely on secondary information which has been collected by others so reliability will constantly come into question. Furthermore due to the time and word limit of the project I have decided to only look at one side of the argument, in favour of legalisation, however I need to be careful to ensure that my work is not biased. I have chosen to focus the research on the medical and financial benefits that legalisation has had in other countries and the impact it could have within the UK. I have chosen to do this because I want to be able to explore the two crucial areas in depth rather than discussing them briefly.
