2.) What crimes are included under the UCR?

Section I Crimes- murder, non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, arson, larceny, aggravated assault and vehicle theft.

Section II Crimes- Sex crimes, drug trafficking and vandalism.

Cleared crimes- This is crimes when an individual(s) have been arrested and awaiting prosecution by the court(s).

3.) How do you calculate crime rate? A crime rate is calculated by dividing the number reported crimes by the population; this result is then multiplied by 100,000.

4.) Compare the UCR, NCVS, and self-report survey. UCR- is compiled data collected from police department records from across the nation. The UCR omits crimes not reported to police and most drug offenses. Also, the report may contain errors.

NCVS- Data is collected by a large national survey. The NCVS relies on the victim’s memory and honesty, and it may omit substance abuse.

Self-report Survey- It should be noted that the self-report includes no reported crimes, substance abuse and the offender’s information.

The self-report survey relies on honesty of the offenders who refuse or unable, due to incarceration to participate, and who may be most delinquent or criminal.

5.) What are crime trends? Crime trends are significant changes in crime compiled data within selected crime types in a geographical area.

6.) What is the difference between instrumental and expressive crimes? Instrumental Crimes- is offenses designed to improve the financial or social position of a criminal, for an example the selling of illegal drugs (in general). Expressive Crimes- are not comments for gain f profit however, are committed...
