Cloud computing security issues and privacy issues go hand in hand because the data that is uploaded, processed and stored can be viewed over a network and can be accessed and retrieved from any device or location (Laudon & Laudon, 2014). Cloud service users need to recognize the risks that are associated with cloud computing as the sensitive/private information no longer sits on the laptop, but is now controlled by a third party and sent to a storage facility. The companies recognize that they should be on guard in understanding the risks of data breaches in our growing technology society. “At the heart of cloud infrastructure is the idea of multi-tenancy and decoupling between specific hardware resources and applications. In the jungle of multi-tenant data, you need to trust the cloud provider that your information will not be exposed” (Binning, 2009). Providers are proud of their systems and how secure they are, but every compromised system was believed to be fail-safe. Analysts warn the cloud service providers that hackers enjoy the challenge and find it predominantly appealing.

In today’s society, companies understand the impact associated with risk of data breaches. Organizations invest millions for fool-proof security systems which are consistently beings revised and updated. “For every update, we review the security requirements for every user in the system” (Binning, 2009). These steps are costly, but necessary in order to secure the organization’s high profile and sensitive information. Google, a recognized leader in the tech world, has spent millions to secure the cloud space. Google “recognizes that having a reputation for security is a key determinant of their success. Security is built into the DNA of our products. Google practices a defense-in-depth security strategy, by architecting security into our people, process and technologies” (Binning, 2009). In March of this year, some leading technology companies like IBM and Cisco...
