Big Five Personality Types

Oftentimes we hear someone say, “That person has a great personality”. What exactly does that means? Personality is the combination of characteristics or qualities that forms an individual’s distinctive character ("What Is Personality", 2014). Characteristic such as how we think, feel, and look shapes our personality. In order to get a better understanding of my personality, I took the Big Five Personality Test.

The Big Five Personality Test characterizes personality into five dimensions: Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Emotional Stability, and Openness to Experience. Extraversion dimensions character traits consist of being sociable, talkative, good natured and cooperative. Conscientiousness traits are being dependable, responsible, and achievement oriented. Emotional Stability traits include stability and being secure. Lastly, openness to experience relates to intellectual, imaginative, and broad minded traits. The Big Five Test measures each dimension personality factors from highest to lowest. My test results were as follow: high in extraversion, moderate in agreeableness, emotional stability, and openness to experience, and low in conscientiousness personality factor. I reviewed my test results, and I believe they are partly correct. For example, I scored nine out of tens points in the extraversion dimension. I agree with this assessment 100 percent. However, I was disappointed in my conscientiousness personality score.

The Big Five Personality Test revealed both my strengths and weaknesses. I scored lower than expected in the conscientiousness dimension. However, I’ve been told to be more open-minded. I have the tendency to not trust what I cannot see which is an area I need to improve in. On the other hand, I scored very high in the extraversion dimension.
