Taming of the Shrew

Amy grew up knowing that one day she would find her knight in shining armor, but he just never seemed to show up at the right time. When all of her friends were getting married right out of college Amy only found herself looking for a job. It seemed no matter where she looked, work, church, or blind dates, the right guy just didn't’ show up. Several years later through eharmony.com that she met my uncle Greg and realized not only was he the right one but she needed to go through those hard times in order to get to him. In love there are obstacles to overcome so that in the end it is all worth it.

One of the many obstacles that Katarina and Petruccio had to deal with was their preconceived ideas about each other. Petruccio had only wanted to meet a woman to marry who had a lot of money. When Petruccio found out that Katarina’s father was rich, he had agreed to start seeing her. Katarina knew that was the only reason that Petruccio wanted her. Although Katarina insulted Petruccio all the time he still insisted on marrying her. This created another obstacle as Petruccio had to tame her because she didn’t want to be married just because she had money. In order for him to tame her, he decided to not let her eat and to get mad at her over the littlest things, like the bed being unmade. Petruccio said, “This is the way to kill a wife with kindness. And thus I'll curb her mad and headstrong humor” (4.2.208-209). Katarina eventually caved in and saw that Petruccio did look at her as more than someone with money and that she was lovable. As time went on Petruccio eventually tamed his shrew. Katarina now listens to everything that Petruccio told her and she even gave a speech to the other women on how wives should be loyal to their husbands.
