Rhizoids are a root-like structure found in bryophytes. In liverworts, mosses, and hornworts rhizoids attach the gametophyte to the ground and aid in the absorption of minerals and water.

Antheridia are male sex organs that can swim (they need water to reproduce), while archegonia are the female organs. They are located on the tips of the plants leaving them isolated when the central portion of the thallus die allowing the section to survive and produce new plants.

Sphagnum store water, living or dying cells can retain large amounts of water so sphagnum with the water stored in the cell can retain the water and moisture in items being shipped.

Bryophytes are important because they can help plants form in areas they couldn’t before because they absorb large amounts of water. They can be a shelter to animals and plants. They provide a moist environment for many other plants like ferns.

The stalk attaches the leaf to the plant, transports water to the blade through the xylem, transports carbohydrates into the plant through the phloem. The blade contains chlorophyll which is the main cite photosynthesis. Pinnae are located on the fronds consisting of leaflets; they house the reproduction

When the Selaginella is dehydrated the plant goes into a hibernation state. When this happens the plant is then protected and this prevents the plant from losing water. When the selaginella rehydrates it allows the plant to open and cell processes to begin again.

Vascular tissue allows plants to grow tall as it is involved in transport of nutrients around the plant. The tissue is made up of long tube-like cells. The cells transport nutrients to the cells throughout the plant.

They are call evergreens because when colder strikes most over leaves and plants die off but the leaves (pine needles) on evergreens do not die off in colder weather conditions.

Pine needles are covered with a waxy coating that protects them from freezing and dehydration. In deciduous trees, cold...
