Project management is being applied in more and more companies. The authors believe in order to have a high-performance project team the project leadership should not only manage quality, budget, and time, but also need to be able to build relationships, manage change, manage conflict, and resource availability. This article mostly discusses soft skills not technical skills required by project leadership to build high performance teams.
The teams work points to the idea that project leadership styles and traits are directly connected to the success of the project. The leadership styles include: openness, self-confidence, fostering good relationships between team members, stating project objectives, and team building. In addition to these leadership styles, the research shows that projects of high involvedness are more likely to succeed if the team leadership exhibits the following behaviors: organization, enterprising, communication, emotional competence, entrepreneurialism, investigative, and inspirational. The authors have shown that by embracing these skill sets, those who are impacted and working on the project will most likely feel an optimistic impact of the project.
