PHASES OF THE MOON
OJECTIVE:
To illustrate the four phases of the moon
MATERIALS:
Flashlight sting
Ping-pong chair
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
1.Tie the ball with the sting let this represent the moon.
2.Let a student stand to represent the earth.
3. Ask another student to hold the flashlight at eye level. This represents the sun.
4.Ask a third student to hold the ball between the flashlight and the earth student.
5.Darken the room and turn on flashlight.
6.Let the earth student describe the lighted portion of the ball.
7.Then slowly move the ball to one-fourth of a circle around the earth student. Describe again the lighted portion of the ball.
8.Repeat the observation when the ball reaches one-half of its way.
9.Observe again when it is three-fourths of its away around.
10.Then return the ball to its original position.
