How to Deal with a Difficult Boss

Most people at some time in their lives have to deal with a difficult boss. Difficult supervisors vary in personality from being a little pushy or rude, all the way to being downright abusive. Dealing with a difficult boss can not only have affect on your work environment but personal life outside of work. It can cause depression; low self esteem and making them live in constant fear. A supervisor has complete control over your most basic human needs your ability to put food on the table and a roof over your head. These are powerful motivating factors that allow a difficult supervisor to control people out of fear of losing these basic needs. We may not be able to always correct their behavior, but we should never have to live in fear and let our difficult boss control our lives. While researching I found their were different forms of bad management styles.

The first one I found was a Bland Boss. They usually avoid risk or conflict at all cost; they are vague and flit between decisions. Dealing with this type of boss you need to notice which situations trigger their bland or weak behavior. If they avoid conflict, they may need to be like by everyone, so take someone else into combat or maybe get their boss to assume a greater leadership role. The second was the Grunt. The grunt has no original thought, drive or ambition. The best to deal with a grunt is to let them stick to what they know, and wait patiently for the next round of downsizing and wave them off the premises. The third was the Control Freak. The controlling manager barely lets you cough in a meeting let a lone say something original or creative. They will manage you at such itty bitty level of detail.
