In the first week of class, the instructor asked us to do a flow chart of a process that we perform on a daily basis. The process chosen for this paper was the filing of bankruptcy chapter 7 voluntary petitions in order to stop a foreclosure on a home or wipe out consumer debt. This was done by creating a flow chart which is able to determine how one uses his or her time. In the legal field, there are certain controls that one has to meet on a regular basis. This paper will discuss the statistical process regarding the daily process in preparing a chapter 7 voluntary petition. Control limits will be explained with as much supported calculation and data to determine the same. It will also be discuss whether this process is affected by seasonal factors or other factors.

A process improvement plan is a change in a specific process, which either removes or reduces the root cause of the process. To improve any process one must first know what steps need to be done and then try to minimize those steps with either the same quality of work or a better quality of work. One has to know what the problem is, evalute the problem, and then fix the problem. That is what this paper will contain. The problem with filing numerous chapter 7 voluntary petitions is that one has to input the same information several times. This has to be done on the intial petition, then on the schedules, on the means test, and statement of financial affairs just to name a few.

In order to define control limits one needs an ample history of the process to define the level of common cause variation and a basis for determining how wide to set the control limits. In order to determine the common cause, one must have enough subgroups to define the common cause operating level of the process (Defining Control Limits).
