Summarizing and Presenting Data

Ballard Integrated Managed Services (BIMS) is a national provider of managed services, for business and institutional organizations. BMIS provides services such as building maintenance and housekeeping, as well as cafeteria services, to industrial, education, and healthcare organizations (University of Phoenix, 2016).

BIMS’ general manager suspects that her staff’s morale is declining because production is suffering, sick time usage has increased, and employee turnover is above the industry average (University of Phoenix, 2016). Thus, BIMS’ management must find an answer to the question; Are there one or more work-related components causing low employee morale?

Through the use of descriptive statistics, this paper will analyze employee responses, to an employee survey and determine which work-related elements are contributing to the decline in morale, productivity, and a higher than average employee turnover rate. For example, the mean of the workers’ responses will help to determine what work components are negatively trending. The mean of the responses is a measure of central tendency; therefore, in a normal distribution the data from the employee survey tend to cluster near the mean (McClave, Benson, & Sincich, 2011). The analysis will help determine which responses cluster near the mean; thus, revealing which work-related components are negatively viewed by employees. Furthermore, analysis of the variability of the data, from the mean helps to determine the accuracy of the data and to identify whether any outliers are present. Therefore, analyzing the sample data, from the employees’ responses permits BIMS management to make inferences about the morale of the employee population (McClave, Benson, & Sincich).
