Business ethics is important for all business to have and follow. Business ethics is a form of ethics that examine moral or ethical problems that may come up within a business. Most businesses have code of ethics for all employees to follow, but unfortunately not all businesses or employees follow them. When business ethics is not determined or followed legal problems may arise. The National Enquire is no exception; this company must follow business ethics like any other company. As we have seen, not following business ethics can cause the company to be sued or have legal issues that can cost thousand, if not millions of dollars. These cases also require a great deal of time to be put into them.

The National Enquirer is a national weekly newspaper that puts out millions of copies. This company is based in Florida but ironically most copies are sold in California (600,000). This magazine, better known as a tabloid, is sold in stores throughout the country. The name tabloid was given to this type of magazine because it produces information about famous people, with some of the information being false. In the case of Shirley Jones, the individual that sued the company for valid reasons, the information was false.

The National Enquirer tried to avoid suit in California, which I do not fell is ethical. If a business is in the wrong they should live up to their mistakes and proceed forward with any legal actions against them. Even though the business is not based in California, the individual writing the story traveled to California to get information. The National Enquirer was trying to get the issue moved to Florida because they thought they had a better chance on their own turf. Because the individual that sued the company lived and worked in California and the magazine was bought there, she has every right to sue in California.
