Philosophy of Teaching

A brief description of my ideas about what education should be.

Education is an essential part of society. We must do our best to prepare today’s youth to thrive as adults in future society. As society grows and changes, the demands placed on its members are ever-increasing. It is our responsibility to anticipate the needs of our youth and educate them appropriately. Education should be a life-long pursuit. It is our responsibility to instill fervor for knowledge in the youth of our society.

I was always an excellent student when I was in elementary and high school. My education was a very positive experience and I remember it fondly as an adult. I have worked in education for the past six years as a paraprofessional for an intermediate unit. I’ve worked with students in every grade level from kindergarten through twelfth grade. It has become my goal to be a positive role model for the children I work with. I want to create an educational experience that is exciting and meaningful. If I can create positive educational experience for the children I work with, just as my teachers did for me as a child, I will feel fulfilled in life.

Unfortunately, I have seen numerous children come from households that don’t value education. These children often do not care if they succeed or fail in their educational endeavors. I feel that it is the responsibility of educators to instill a value for education in all of today’s students. In order to do this, teachers must take an interest in their students. It is only when you truly know a student that you can discover what motivates him or her.

I believe that all children should be given the opportunity to succeed. Students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying intellectual abilities. Students’ individual differences should be taken into account when designing their education....
