My Ethical Compass #3

Scenario 1

In this first scenario, my opinion has not changed and that it was wrong for my boss to asked me to work even a few hours on the long holiday weekend when I told him weeks ago about a prior commitment I had made for that long end of the week holiday. Then agreeing to do the project was also my fault for I should have reminded my boss of my previous plans and commitment and asked that he find someone else to do the job, do the project himself or see if giving the presentation would suit to be given on another day.

The boss gave a time frame of the how long it might take to do the project, which was between 20-25 hours. Promising to send the boss the project by email as soon as possible so that he could tweak it if necessary for a presentation on Tuesday. I finished the job a whole day and a half earlier so that I could be at the event I had made plans to attend weeks ago.

For me to the project in as short as time possible, I found, copied and pasted someone else’s work off the internet into the project and called it my own. Telling my boss in an email that it took 23 hours of hard work to finish the job. When the actual time was much less, and I figured that the $25/hr. for the hours not worked on the projected was a bonus, plus it would teaching the boss a lesson, even a lesson he did not know that he has learned, and that lesson is not to ask anyone to do a job on a long weekend holiday. When body and mind are all set for a few hours of recreation and relaxation before heading back into work.

Scenario # 2

I consider both cheating and robbing equal in being the worse it is very hard to pick. They are the worse because both are taking property and damaging the owners and their only means of support. However, cheating in the old man case would be the worse of the two. Taking away the retired old man traditional source of revenue of and that is on an inadequate fixed income.

Promising is about keeping one’s word to show...
