Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine
Physical therapy is an allied health discipline under the physical medicine. It means, physical medicine is a well-known branch of rehabilitation medicine. What is rehabilitation medicine? Is the rehabilitation center for the drug addict?
Rehabilitation refers to a treatment designed to facilitate the process of recovery from injury, illness or disease to as normal a condition as possible. The purpose of rehabilitation is to restore some or all of the patient’s physical, sensory and mental capabilities that were lost due to injury, illness or disease. Rehabilitation includes assisting the patients to compensate for deficits that cannot be reversed medically. It is prescribed after many types of injury, illness or disease, including amputations, arthritis, cancer, cardiac disease, neurological problems, orthopaedic injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke and traumatic brain injuries. Rehabilitation also refers to the development of a person to the fullest physical, psychological, social, vocational, avocational and educational potential consistent with his or her physiological and anatomical impairment and environmental limitations. Rehabilitation center is a facility providing therapy and training for rehabilitation. The center may offer occupational therapy, physical therapy, vocational training, and special training such as speech therapy.
The author wants to discover that reason why the rehabilitation center in the Philippines Public Hospital encountered some problems such as financially, skilled staffs, trainings etc. In terms of financially, the public hospital cannot afford to buy equipment and extend the facilities of their rehabilitation center. The author wants to come up of remedies to the financial shortage. The author sometimes do fundraising program to help the rehabilitation center.
