Introduction

Competition among business continues to increase and the importance of employee motivation. Employee motivation is essential because it determines the growth of the organization. Today, management faces not only global competition but also designing the appropriate motivation plan that enhances employee satisfaction and growth.

Theories of Motivation Plan

Motivation as forces within an individual that accounts for the direction, level, and persistence of a person’s efforts expended at work (Schermerhorn, 2012). Maslow first made the theory of motivation popular. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory that views human needs is composed of five steps. Physiological needs, safety needs, social (love and belonging), esteem and self-actualization. Maslow further stated that physiological needs such as food and water must be fulfilled before human beings could be concerned with other needs in the hierarchy. With this in mind Maslow asserted that human beings had the capacity be motivated, and that motivation is actually primitive of humanity. The theory of motivation began in the realm of psychological study; it later became a theory associated with organizational behavior. McClelland theory argues that people are achievement oriented meet three needs; need for power, affiliation and achievement through learning. There is no one perfect motivation theory or plan but involve the individual, find out what motivates him or her. It is important to actively involve each individual in the organization by clearly stating what is the organization goals and expectation for each individual.
