* List ways community contributes to children’s development.
Not all communities are created equal. If a child grows up in a wealthy neighborhood with good playgrounds they might be better off than a child who grew up in a bad neighborhood.
* List typical roles of fathers.
More playful, more instrumentally helpful in getting children to interact with children outside the family
* List typical roles of mothers.
Tends to child’s physical needs, like feeding and bathing, displaying affection. More likely to get children to open up.
* Give a positive example (scenario) of coparenting. Give a negative example (scenario) of coparenting. Raising the children together. Positive- healthy argument where a problem is worked out. Negative- screaming match in front of children.
* List influences of divorce on children. Explain how to appropriately assist in children whose parents are getting a divorce.
Children tend to think its their fault, financial issues that they see (living on one income). You can give them a lot of time and support, be patient, help them express their feelings, and that they are loved. Don't make them talk about something when they aren't ready.
* Give examples of individuals in an extended family.
Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles.
* Give characteristics of adopted children.
At greater risk for emotional, behavioral, and academic problems. Grow up to be well adjusted
* Give two scenarios/examples of guided participation.
How the parents interact (like the arguing situation). How children interact with one another, like what they are suppose to do and not suppose to do.
