Webcomics, comics that originated from online publishing, have proven to be one of the most popular forms of online entertainment; Webcomic superstars like Penny-Arcade and XKCD are getting more than 2 million page views a day[1] and they are not alone. There are three primary factors to why webcomics are so popular, the wide variety of options, the frequent release of material, and it’s free cost.

The first two strengths of webcomics can also lead to a lot of issues for people. With so many different webcomics available to a consumer they tend to be over flooded with options and this can lead to them not reading high quality comics they would easily enjoy.

The second problem is with the constant release of new comics, most of which having varying release schedules (such as Monday/Wednesday/Friday, daily or weekly) consumers have trouble keeping track of when their favorite webcomics have updated.

Comics Daily is an online service that is designed to deal with these two problems and provide other features that will be useful to fans of webcomics. When a user first uses the website they will be prompted to do two things, tell the website what comics they are currently reading, known as their subscribed webcomics, and optionally to register an account. After the information is filled out Comics Daily will then create the active reading grid, a grid of webcomic previews, each square representing and serving as a link to the first unread release of a subscribed webcomic.To easily notify a user when a webcomic has been updated the visual representation of the webcomic will change: desaturated and greyed out if the webcomic has not been updated since the user was last on the website and in full color if it has.
